The crowds stopped and stared in the city centre of Le Mans when they saw this vision in white. David Stephens - the man long known as Captain Black - had suddenly reinvented himself as Captain White.
He's been eating for England during the last two months, ready for a trip to the Suzuka 1000 Kilometres and then his new role as a Sumo wrestler. Preparations have gone well and he's rumoured to have added at least 30 pounds to his all up weight. The heat wave at Le Mans has given his skin a nicely Oriental look too - perhaps a hint of too much sunburn though, which has fortunately faded during the intervening weeks.
His trainer is more than a little concerned that the heat and humidity at Suzuka might cause the pounds to pour off him before his trial as a Sumo, but he can be relied upon to carry on eating for England if there's the slightest chance of any hospitality from the European teams at Suzuka. Listers / Chamberlain / Marcos Racing International - please feed this man.
A spokesman for Marcos Racing International commented that, "there is always a chance of macaroni round the back of our lorry and we will be glad to contribute to Stephens' valiant effort." |
