JMR/RS ANNOUNCE LEMANS DRIVER LINEUP
Indianapolis, April 24, 2002 – Jim Matthews Racing and Riley & Scott announced the completion of their driver lineup for the 24 Hours of Lemans with the signing of sports car veteran Didier Theys. The Belgian native will partner with team owner Jim Matthews and countryman Marc Goossens at this year’s running of the endurance classic on June 15 and 16. Guy Smith, who had been a member of the driver squads that piloted the JMR Riley & Scott Mk III C to podium finishes at both the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring, will attend this year’s Lemans race in a reserve driver role with Bentley.
“I’m very pleased to join Marc and Jim,” said Didier, 45, and a veteran of twelve starts at the 24 hours of Lemans. “The car was fast and reliable at Sebring, and since then there has been a lot of work done to make it even better”. Team director Bill Riley was glad to come to terms with the long time champion who finished third at Lemans driving for Audi Sport Team Joest in 1999. “Didier is a great fit for the squad. He’s fast, reliable, and very easy to work with”.
Riley & Scott Racing, based in Indianapolis, was the only American non-factory prototype entry invited to this year’s 24 hours of Lemans. The Indianapolis based manufacturer and race team is returning to Lemans for the third time, having competed in 1996 and 2000.
