Carsport Holland is looking at the possibilities of competing in next years Le Mans classic with an all new GTS car. The Dutch team who are currently running a Viper GTS-R in the FIA GT Championship, plan to use the experience gained in re working their Chrysler in the build of a racing version of the Pagani Zonta road car.
Pagani, based in San Cesario, Italy, only build 20 of the Mercedes V12 powered supercars a year, each one taking over eight months to finish. The current model, the Zonda C12, has the performance to compete at the very top of the supercar ladder, with 555 bhp and top speed in excess of 200mph (330 kph). The cars design incorporates very latest in chassis development with a carbon fibre tub attached to separate front and rear sub assemblies. Effectively the car is pieced together from three large pieces.
Aluminium is used for all the suspension components helping to give the Pagani a kerb of only 1250kg. The 7.2 litre AMG supplied engine is ideal for GT racing and Le Mans in particular, loosely based around the GT1 CLK power plant.
With the ACO ready to allow carbon fibre tubs back into GT racing (the FIA will follow in 2004) we should all get ready for the latest onslaught of super cars arriving at a circuit near to you soon. A new breed of super cars are on there way from manufacturers such as Porsche, Ferrari, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Pagani, Edonis, TVR, Mercedes-Mclaren, Audi, Volkswagon…………
Carsport could be on verge of starting something huge.
