Sportscar World is expecting to be able to post the first shots of a brand new ALMS contender on November 18.
With prototype drives in short supply, Jorg Muller is contemplating an offer to drive one of the Schnitzer BMW M3s in the 2001 ALMS. When factories leave (the top category), drivers realise that the good times may be at an end for a while. They can’t always slip into the kind of drive they want. Guy Smith has been testing a new Reynard one make single seater in the UK. Now the drive he’d really like must logically be an Audi R8 in Europe and at Le Mans. But any decision on whether the Johansson team will be looking after the customer Audis isn’t expected yet.
With few signs of commitments to the ELMS, it’s encouraging to report that ROC are planning a full ELMS season, with Le Mans of course as the highlight of their year. They’re going to benefit from Reynard developments to the 675 version of the 2KQ-LM, which should bring it right down to the weight limit. They ran at about 760 kg this year, but nearly 500 bhp from the VW turbo ought to be enough to carry a much lighter car to the head of the field.
Dyson Racing are suggesting that the ‘better’ ALMS circuits will see a Dyson presence in the ALMS, at perhaps six events – Sebring, Sears Point, two in Canada, Laguna Seca and Road Atlanta? Le Mans could also become part of the programme, but a chassis has yet to be selected.
Michael Colucci will add to the interest in the GT class by running a Callaway C12 for Bob Mazzuoccola and Shane Lewis, rather than the ubiquitous GT3R. |
