Alx's Two Day Testing |
At Donington and Oulton Park |
|
|
Tuesday and Wednesday week 8 Alx tested at the classic circuits Donington Park and Oulton Park. The tests progressed without any technical misfortunes and both the team JLR and Alx were satisfied with the tests.
We managed to get two really good days of testing this week. The first test-day was held at one of my favourite circuits - Donington. I was working with my RF02, while the others drivers in the team continued their test with the car from last year - RF01. We’ve received a lot of valuable information by comparing the two models.
Conditions was up-drying during the whole morning and we also had the opportunity to drive approximately 10 laps with slicks as well, before the rain started to fall again. Anyhow, we managed to find good set-ups for both dry and wet conditions. Other than that, I can inform that the training was red flagged approximately every ten minutes during the whole day and that our very unofficial timing equipment indicated that I was the fastest in both wet and dry. Now, one shouldn’t read too much into that, but it was, however, very good for the team moral.
After the test-day we packed our things and drove to Oulton Park to spend the night at “Millers”. Along with me in the car I had a Frenchman, Ben, that been testing with us as well. During the whole time, the heavy rain continued, which was a bit worrisome considering the next day testing. And as we figured, the circuit was soaking wet in the morning.
The day wasn’t divided into sessions, so there where the opportunity to drive from 9 to 5. This time it wasn’t the red flags that were responsible for the breaks, but the weather. Several heavy rains and some hail passed by before the day came to an end. Since it was mostly soaking wet, I only had the opportunity to drive three laps on slicks in slightly wet conditions. Even on this test day, my team mate and I kept good pace.
Anyhow, we managed to cover several laps so the car is well adjusted. We also managed to get some time to do some set-up work and everything is falling in its designated place.
Yesterday I had some time to work at Palmer Sport as well. Unfortunately in the rain, but it was fun to see some “old faces” again. Yesterday I was accompanied by Justin Wilson that won F3000 last year and by James Hanson that is said to be the new teammate of Rickard Rydell in the Volvo team. |
