GTR Supertrophy
The Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy consists of around 25 specially made Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 GTR's. The championship is host to competitors from around the world. The championship takes place throughout the year on several world class racing circuits, the 2001 events were held at the following race circuits:
o Ricardo Torno Circuit - Valencia/Spain
o Nurburgring - Germany
o Magny Cośrs - France
o Donington - England
o Melbourne - Australia (support race for the F1 Grand Prix)
o Spa - Belgium
o Monza - Italy
Each race is usually a support race for another major event being held at the same track on the same days, for example this year the race in Melbourne, Australia was the support race for the Formula 1 Grand Prix! At each race there is usually a hospitality tent for all drivers and team members and contained within this tent there are food and refreshments for the teams.
Each race meeting starts with two practice sessions on a Friday each lasting around 45-60 mins each. Then on the Saturday morning comes 2 Qualifying sessions for races 1 & 2 respectively each qualifying session lasts for around 20 minutes. The first race takes place on the Saturday afternoon and last for up to 1 hour then the second race occurs on the Sunday. Each race is started with a rolling start and there is a compulsory 45 second pit-stop for driver changes around 30 minutes into the actual race. Refuelling stops are not permitted during the race and tyres are limited due to 'budget considerations and fairness of competition'.
There are two championships that can be won throughout the season, there is the overall Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy championship and there is the 'Gentlemen Drivers championship'. Both championships are fiercely contended and trophies are awarded at the end of the season after the last race of the season.
One of the specialties of the supertrophy is that involved in all of the races is a VIP car that races alongside the other contestants and each race weekend contains a different celebrity or journalist, usually from the world of motorsport.
In conclusion the Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy is a totally enthralling and well organised championship, bringing together some of the biggest names in motorsport and combining them with some of the most beautiful machines on the planet.
