It Was The W12 Engine At Monza |
|
It’s one of those stories that will never be confirmed officially, but faced with a second eye (ear?) witness report stating that the engine in the chassis tested at Monza didn’t sound like a turbo, but instead it sounded like a multi-cylinder (a ten or a twelve), we shall have to conclude that it was indeed the W12.
The car was apparently in and out of the pits a lot, as you’d expect for only its second known test, and the pit lane and garage were very much off limits to SCW spies, but you can’t deceive a Mark l earhole for three and a half days!
James Weaver seems to be favourite to occupy a car at Le Mans, and for the first time it is becoming clear that at least two will be entered. Richard Lloyd is suggesting that one will be occupied by a British squad of drivers (“a British superteam”), and he’s after the best available. Andy Wallace ought to be tagged onto the ‘most likely’ list then. JC-W? You can’t get much more British sounding than that.
Many drivers have been in contact about a possible drive.
Now it seems it could be a naturally aspirated V8! The car's best lap was a 1:41. |
