The Wieth Racing Ferrari F550 GTS was introduced at the Parkcafé in Munich on November 11. Stephan Ratel was among the 100 guests in attendance.
The car is obviously targeted at the FIA GT Championship, where it will run head to head with the First Racing Ferrari. The Wieth car – driven by Franz and his son Niko – has been developed entirely independently of the First car. The engine tuning work was carried out by Voelkl Motorsports. The chassis and running gear was developed in association with Baumgartner Sportwagen Technik, under Franz Wieth.
A small independent team are to be praised for developing their own machine – a method of homologation sought by Stephane Ratel when the current FIA GT Championship was re-created for 1999. 600 bhp and 1100 kg ought to see the car at near front-running pace. “We hope to catch some points and be able to beat the Listers and Vipers in the second half of the season,” said Niko Weith. “We will use the car in the FIA GT Championship and maybe in some races of the new Euro GT series.”
Support comes from York Prince of Schaumburg Lippe (SL Llumar, carglass supplies), Falk Raudies (Alldis, computer distribution) and Markus Knoch (CFC, Car Film Components). |
