Johannes van Overbeek and Jeff McMillin completed the top three.<BR> <BR> Pobst started from the Woody's Ice Pole Position in his No. 22 1st Interstate Inn/3R Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and jumped into the lead on the standing start. While several drivers got close early, the driver making his first World Challenge appearance this year utilized traffic to his advantage to cruise to a 4.172-second win, averaging 91.473 mph<BR> <BR> "The race was determined by the start," said Pobst, who last won in the Speed World Challenge in 1992. "Galati was going to try to get by me on the right, so I immediately went right at the start. After he fell back, I was able to run clean laps ahead of the pack.<BR> <BR> "I run Porsches in a lot of different series, and I love racing here in the World Challenge. With six different makes of car in the top seven spots, you can really tell that SCCA Pro Racing is doing a good job at equalizing the cars running in this series."<BR> <BR> Behind Pobst, McMillin's No. 25 JJ's Snacks/McMillin Motorsports BMW M3 dogged third-starting Galati's Audi S4 for the first nine laps before Van Overbeek finally made a move in the No. 81 Flextronics/Brocade/Shoreline Porsche 911 GT3 Cup stick in turn one. Galati's power steering failed him on lap 16, dropping him to sixth in one lap.<BR> <BR> From there, McMillin dogged Van Overbeek for the rest of the 42-lap, 64.26-mile contest. Their battle allowed Pobst to stretch out his lead in the final third of the race.<BR> <BR> "The Flextronics/Shoreline/Brocade Porsche was just awesome out here today," said Van Overbeek, who finished second last weekend at Mosport International Raceway. "I had missed on the setup until we ran the morning warmup today, and finally got the car setup correctly. Michael [Galati] was really holding us up for a while. Once I got past Jeff [McMillin] and Galati fell back, I was trying to catch Randy, but spent most of my time trying to keep Jeff behind me."<BR> <BR> McMillin earned his second podium finish of the season, and while he battled van Overbeek, had to contend with a charging Peter Cunningham late in the race.<BR> <BR> "I was concentrating on getting around Johannes [van Overbeek], and I looked in my mirror and there was Cunningham, and I though 'oh boy,'" said McMillin. "Luckily, [Eric] Curran was back there working on him. It was a good race today. The BMW was really good on most of the course, but Johannes was able to make some good runs on me going into turn one."<BR> <BR> Cunningham, who started second but fell to fifth at the start, made the late charge to finish fourth in his Acura NSX SC. Curran who passed Cunningham at one point in the closing stages, finished fifth in his Corvette. The move by Curran was determined the Rogaine "Hair Raising Pass of the Race" by the Speed Channel television crew.<BR> <BR> Cunningham's finish allowed him to take a slim points lead over Galati, 82 to 79, heading into Round Four of 10. McMillin is a close third, with 75, followed by David Farmer (68) and van Overbeek (62).<BR> <BR> Porsche gained ground in the Manufacturers' Championship, which is still led by Acura, with 17, followed by Porsche (15), BMW (13) and Audi (12). <BR> </FONT></TD></TR> </TABLE><BR> </CENTER> <BR><CENTER><font size="1" color="#808080" face="Tahoma">Copyright ©2000-©2023 TotalMotorSport</font></CENTER> </td> </tr> </table> </body>
