The Prodrive Ferrari team has successfully completed its final track test in preparation for the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 15/16th June.
The Ferrari 550 GTS Maranello ran at Rockingham International Speedway for two days (21st/22nd May), during which time all three of the team’s Le Mans drivers spent valuable hours behind the wheel. Tomas Enge, Alain Menu and Rickard Rydell between them drove approximately 1,000kms, working on reliability and durability.
After the end of the test, Prodrive Ferrari team principal, George Howard-Chappell, said: “Overall I am very pleased with the way things have gone. The engine ran very well over the two days, and we satisfied ourselves on a number of gearbox improvements which we had wanted to put to the test. We still have a bit to do but I am optimistic for Le Mans.”
Rickard Rydell said: “Although Rockingham is not exactly a comparison for Le Mans, the tight and twisty nature of the infield part was ideal as it made the gearbox and engine work hard and tested them fully. It also gave us a chance to do some longer, uninterrupted stints to work on fuel figures.”
The team has now returned to its Banbury base to finalise the preparations for departure to France in a little over two weeks time.
