The Sports Car Club of America has hired Sandy Abrahams to become its next Vice President of Finance. Abrahams joins the SCCA staff after serving as the Controller for the Kansas Electric Power Cooperative, since 1997. She will replace Dee Ann Knudsen, who will retire from her Vice President of Finance and Administration position later this year after 26 years with the SCCA. A graduate of Kansas State University and Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Abrahams brings a wealth of experience to the SCCA, with additional financial stints at Payless Shoesource and Pizza Hut in her career. "Sandy will be a tremendous addition to our staff," said Steve Johnson, SCCA President and CEO. "She brings a wealth of financial experience and knowledge that can be implemented into our organization in a very short period of time. She is also a very high-energy individual, interested in all aspects of the SCCA, which make her a perfect fit into our team. I anticipate all of us will learn a great deal from Sandy, which will benefit our managers' departments and membership as well."
Abrahams will officially start June 10, with Knudsen staying on for the next several months through the transition. "We have to all thank Dee Ann for doing such a wonderful job with the company for so many years," added Johnson. "We wish her the best in her retirement. We looked at several candidates for the new Vice President of Finance position, and Sandy will fit in perfectly with not only our company initiatives, but also our company work atmosphere," said Knudsen. "I've spent over 25 years watching SCCA grow and change from the inside. It's been a big part of my life, and I'm confident that it will be in good hands. I'm chomping at the bit to get started and make a difference," said Abrahams. "I am very impressed with Steve Johnson's desire to take this organization to the next level, and definitely want to be a part of it. This will be a new industry for me, but I'm anxious to get involved."
Abrahams is the first resident of Topeka, Kansas to be hired by the SCCA, which will relocate from Centennial to Topeka in November. "It's very exciting to have a new company such as the SCCA moving to Topeka," said Abrahams. A Kansas native, Abrahams is an avid participant in running and bicycle racing, and enjoys snow skiing, golf, tennis, racquetball and many other sports. She will be relocating to Denver temporarily prior to the November move.
