European SRs and Lights Won’t Be Scoring Points For The FIA Series |
|
As part of the planned upgrading of the SRWC to full FIA Sportscar Championship status, races that qualify as scoring rounds have to include a crash test for all entries. As the Grand Am hasn’t made the test mandatory for their runners, the Rolex 24 will no longer be a scoring round for the FIA Sportscar Championship. There is nothing to stop FIA cars crossing the Atlantic and running in the Rolex 24.
It seems that the Grand Am / SRWC connection that looked promising a year ago is over. The Europeans were very reluctant to enter the mid-1999 US races and now the FIA connection has buried the Europe / US arrangement altogether. |
