Lehto Joins Champion for ALMS
JJ Lehto signed with Champion Racing today to team with existing pilot Johnny Herbert. The Finn will co-drive the teams Audi R8 for the remaining eight races of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).
Lehto, 36 years old, has amassed 25 career starts and 11 wins in the ALMS, most of those coming behind the wheel of a BMW. This season Lehto has joined the number seven Cadillac LMP900 team for the distance races, finishing 27th at Sebring and 10th at Le Mans.
"We feel that JJ would be very complimentary to Johnny Herbert as he is focused on winning the drivers championship this year," said Don Skuta, vice president, Champion Racing. "Andy Wallace has a strong commitment to Bentley and he is dedicated to their program."
Johnny Herbert is currently the drivers points leader in the ALMS series with 51, Audi factory driver Tom Kristensen is in second with 44.
