Co-Drivers Randy Pobst and Henry Gilbert Prepare for Tough Battle at The Glen
The Gilbert Racing / Gembella Porsche GT-3 Cup Car posted the quickest lap in this morning’s practice session for The Sports Car Grand Prix at Watkins Glen Raceway. Driver Randy Pobst turned a lap of 2:03.571, showing once again that the No 25 Gemballa Porsche was indeed a car to watch during this afternoon’s Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series race.
On Friday, Pobst drove the car to third-position start in qualifying.
“The guys really have the car set up right for this track,” Pobst said. “I have never been in this car prior to this weekend so, for me to be able to get comfortable as quickly as I did says a lot for the whole Gilbert / Gemballa team. I know that the rest of the field will make this a great, competitive race so having the comfort of a well-prepared car under me is crucial.”
The team spent time on Friday working on various set-up changes, making the car suitable for Pobst’s driving style. At the same time, they must consider the fact that Henry Gilbert also is looking for the best car possible for his stint in the three-hour event. Following the first of two practice sessions on Friday, both drivers agreed that the some changes needed to be made. From that point right up to the time for session two, the Gilbert paddock area was a busy place – this even though the car only needed minor handling changes; however, they wanted to make sure the car would have just the right balance for qualifying.
“There is a lot if traffic in this event so we really need to be on our toes,” Gilbert commented. “I couldn’t be happier with the performance of the whole team. These guys are excited and they run the race right along with Randy and I and I want to be a factor in this event and put the Gilbert / Gemballa Porsche on the podium.” |
