Aaron replaces Gary Perry |

SCCA Pro Racing has named Aaron Coalwell its new SPEED World Challenge Technical Director, replacing Gary Perry, who has left to pursue interests outside of motorsports.
Coalwell, 31, joins the SCCA Pro Racing staff after two-plus years as the Assistant Technical Manager for SCCA Club Racing. His background includes heading the Formula SAE program at Southern Technical College (now Southern Polytechnic State University) while studying in the Mechanical Engineering Technology program, and a large amount of SCCA Club Racing and Solo field staff work prior to joining the SCCA staff in January 2000. Coalwell has continued his schooling at Metropolitan State College of Denver part time, and intends to enroll in Colorado State University's Masters of Motorsports engineering program.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to work with such a great series," said Coalwell. "Along with Gary, the SCCA Pro Racing staff has built the strongest production car-based series in the world. Anyone who understands the intricacies of the rules in this series knows that this position is one of the most challenging in all of motorsports. I'm certainly up to that challenge. "I've enjoyed my time working with the Club Racing staff and everyone in the Club Racing program. I look forward to still seeing familiar faces at Pro and Club races across the country."
Perry, who joined the staff full time in 2001, has left SCCA Pro Racing to pursue different career opportunities unrelated to motorsports. He will remain a member of the SCCA Pro Racing Field Staff with the SPEED World Challenge GT and Touring Car series. Coalwell was Perry's personal selection to be his replacement.
"I have the utmost confidence in Aaron's abilities in keeping both a level playing field and a consistent dialogue with our participants and manufacturers," said Perry. "This is a wonderful series and I'm sad to leave it on a full-time basis, but I know that I'm leaving it in good hands with Aaron Coalwell and the best field staff in the business."
Coalwell's move "down the hall" from SCCA Club Racing to SCCA Pro Racing officially occurred June 25. |
