Lambert Gives Audi First Woody's Ice Pole In Speed Touring Car At Mid-Ohio
Rookie Paul Lambert captured his first-career Woody's Ice Pole Position for Sunday's SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Round Four race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. It is the first-ever pole position for Audi in the SPEED Touring Car Championship and Audi swept the SPEED GT, Touring Car and American Le Mans Series Mid-Ohio poles. Will Turner completes the front row for Sunday's race.
Driving the No. 77 Stasis/Design It/Fiber Images Audi A4, Lambert turned a fastest lap of 1:40.843 around the 2.258-mile circuit to edge Turner by less than 0.1-second. It was Lambert's first Woody's Ice Pole Position in just his seventh race.
"We've had a tough season so far this year, but the Stasis crew has worked at adding something each race to the car, and it's really beginning to pay off," said Lambert. "I got word from [Champion Racing driver and SPEED GT polesitter] Michael [Galati] right before the session that I should really go for it on the first lap because the track was slick. That information really helped me."
Turner ran his lap of 1:40.920 but it was not quite enough in the No. 92 Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW 325i. Taz Harvey was third in his Honda Civic, followed by Mike Fitzgerald's Lexus IS 300 and Scott Bradley's Mazda Protégé ES. Five different manufacturers in the top five of qualifying is also a series first in the SPEED Touring Car Championship.
SPEED Touring Car point leaders did not fare well, as point leader, Pierre Kleinubing qualified ninth, second place Ken Dobson qualified 16th and third place Peter Cunningham qualified 47th.
