Sponsors Earn A+ on Midseason Contingency Report Card
The 55 companies participating in the contingency award programs for the Rolex Sports Car Series and the Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series have earned an A+ from race teams as the series marks the midway point in their 10-race schedules. With five races in the books for both series, teams have earned a total of $310,200, with $152,925 earned in the Rolex Series and $157,275 earned in Grand-Am Cup.
With contingency awards being offered by auto manufacturers and aftermarket companies alike, there are plenty of awards to be earned in Grand American competition. Thirty-one contingency sponsors support the Rolex Series, and the Grand-Am Cup contingency program has 34 sponsors participating.
Many teams are benefiting from the awards, with some companies using unique award criteria that pay as far down as 24th place. The Rolex Series has seen 50 different cars earn awards, while the Grand-Am Cup Series had 38 cars earn cash or product in the first half of the season.
"These contingency programs are win/win for everyone involved," noted Grand American President Roger Edmondson. "The sponsors get exposure and direct sales to the competitors, the competitors get extra income and support and Grand American sees larger fields with well-prepared race cars."
