The Daytona Prototypes made their debut at Daytona International Speedway earlier this year in the Rolex 24 At Daytona, and now they will return to the track to determine who will wear the crown as the class' first-ever champion. <BR> <BR> After Bell Motorsports' victory in the VIR 400 on Sunday, the team has pulled into the lead in the team owner point standings, while driver Terry Borcheller leads the driver points. With 346 points, Bell Motorsports and Borcheller hold a slim three-point advantage over the No. 58 Red Bull Porsche of Brumos Racing and its drivers David Donohue and Mike Borkowski. <BR> <BR> The Brumos Racing Red Bull team had held an eight-point lead heading into last weekend's VIR 400. However, suspension trouble coupled with the car's involvement in a late-race multi-car pileup resulted in a seventh-place class finish for the team, dropping it to second place with 343 points. <BR> <BR> However, the Bell Motorsports and Brumos Racing Red Bull teams are not the only ones with a shot at the Daytona Prototype championship. A second-place finish by the Brumos Racing No. 59 Porsche of Hurley Haywood and JC France propelled them to within four points of the leaders. <BR> <BR> While the Daytona Prototype championship race is set to be a nail biter, the GTS championship has already been decided. The Heritage Motorsports No. 48 Mustang of Tommy Riggins and Dave Machavern clinched the GTS team owner championship with it second-place finish in class at the VIR 400. Riggins and Machavern have also clinched the GTS driver championship. <BR> <BR> Cort Wagner and Brent Martini increased their lead in the GT championship race with their class win at VIR in the Scuderia Ferrari of Washington No. 33 Ferrari 360GT. The team and its drivers currently hold an 18-point advantage over Marcus Motorsports and its drivers Hugh Plumb and Brian Cunningham. The Ferrari team and drivers will clinch the GT championships with only one lap under green during the Grand American Champions Weekend presented by Brumos Porsche. <BR> <BR> In the manufacturer point standings, Porsche continues to lead over Chevrolet for the Daytona Prototype engine manufacturer championship, while FABCAR leads Doran for the chassis manufacturer title. Both Porsche and FABCAR are holding a 21-point advantage and it will take only one lap for the two to clinch their respective titles. <BR> <BR> Ford has secured its title as the GTS manufacturer champion, while the battle for the GT manufacturer award is separated by only one point.
