No Audis In FIA SCC |
Not Enough Available, Too Expensive |

Although it initially seemed as though privateer Audis would be welcomed into the FIA Sportscar Championship (with smaller restrictors to counteract their single roll hoops), it has now become clear that they will not be allowed to compete because the rules state that four cars must be available for sale. There is also the difficult subject of the price cap, although this was circumnavigated for Thomas Bscher’s BMW when the existing teams agreed to that car running in 1999 and 2000.
John Mangoletsi is quoted in Autosport as saying that, “the Audis are not eligible at the moment and I think that suits our teams. It would be better not to have manufacturer-backed cars until the 2002 season, when our guys have found their feet.”
That suggests that the 2001 line-up will be largely unchanged from 2000. Scuderia Italia and GLV Brums are indicating that they will continue to run their Ferraris. Perhaps the FIA SCC will simply shadow the SRWC. |
