Audi Clinches Manufacturer’s Title Championship For A Second Time In The Speed World Challenge GT Series
Champion Racing Audi RS 6 teammates Randy Pobst and Michael Galati finished an outstanding first and second in today’s final SPEED World Challenge GT race in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The result gave Audi not only its second Manufacturer’s Championship, but also gave Randy Pobst his first Driver’s Championship.
The Champion Racing team, worked extremely hard all year constantly developing the brand new Audi RS 6 Competiton Car. The team’s tireless efforts allowed the drivers to get on the podium 7 out of 9 times this year.
Rod Bymaster, Motorsports Manager for Audi Sport North America, raised his arms in celebration as the Audi’s finished first and second beneath the chequered flag. “Audi of America is so proud of Randy and Michael, Dave Maraj and the entire Champion Racing crew,” said Bymaster. “Champion Racing is a great group and people and they really deserve this Championship. Congratulations also to Randy Pobst for winning his first Driver’s Championship. We’re thrilled he did it in an Audi!”
Pobst started from pole position and lead from start to finish all 36 laps. Michael Galati, who started third, quickly jumped into 2nd position and also held his position for the entire race.
The Champion Racing team was proud to be sponsored this weekend by local Audi dealer Gomez Hermanos Kennedy and its President, Victor M. Gomez.
Randy Pobst:
“Being part of Audi and the Champion Racing team has been a wonderful thing. At the beginning of the season we had a brand new car and it needed a lot of work. This Audi RS 6 was a new car for all of us this year and each race the team was able to improve it and always make it better to drive. We made very few mistakes and therefore were able to get on the podium seven times this year. It’s such a pleasure to be part of this team and to win the Manufacturer’s Championship. That’s been a career goal for me since I first started racing and I’m so pleased I was able to do it with Audi.”
Michael Galati:
“I’m so proud of all the guys at Champion Racing. I had a difficult year at the beginning of the season and then about half way through things started to turn around. I feel really good about winning the Manufacturer’s Championship for Audi and that I was able to once again contribute to it. And I couldn’t be happier for the Champion guys because those are my guys and they deserve it. I can’t say enough good words about Dave Maraj and the guys from Champion Racing.”
