Holiday Inn SEAT Cupra Champion To Contest Supercopa Finale In Spain
Robert Huff, the Holiday Inn SEAT Cupra Champion, will contest the final round of the Spanish SEAT Leon Supercopa Championship in Barcelona on November 8/9.
The 23-year old driver from Cambridgeshire will race at the Circuit de Catalunya for the first time, and Rob’s 2004 works SEAT UK team-mate, Jason Plato, who has tested at the home of the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix, will be on hand to lend technical advice.
Rob will drive the same Marshall of Cambridge Leon Cupra R in which he won the SEAT Cupra Championship title in this year. Northampton-based SEAT Sport UK will prepare the car to Spanish regulations and transport the car to Barcelona for the official test session on Friday 7th November. Qualifying takes place the following day, with the single race on Sunday 9th November.
The race weekend will form part of a SEAT UK dealer incentive, in which 24 of the network’s most successful dealer principals and their guests will be at the Circuit de Catalunya to cheer Robert on.
Robert is following in the footsteps of Johnny Herbert, who contested the same race last year in a Leon Cupra R. The former F1 pilot qualified 17th for the first race and finished 7th, and was then spun out of the second race on the opening lap, hurting his ankle in the process.
Huff said: “I’ve only done one race in mainland Europe, and that was at Zolder in Belgium, so I’m really looking forward to racing in Barcelona. Having sat out the final SEAT Super Prix at Brands Hatch it’s great to have a final race in my Championship winning Leon Cupra R, and this is a tremendous way to end a fantastic season. Clearly the Spanish drivers will know the Circuit de Catalunya really well and the changes in the technical set-up of the cars will also be new to me, but I’m looking forward to racing and I’ll be going out there to do my best, that’s for sure.”
Plato said: “It’s a great opportunity for Rob to gain some international racing experience and I’m looking forward to working together for the first time as team-mates on technical issues.”
