Guy Smith To Represent England |
|
Following his victory at The 24 Hours of Le Mans for Team Bentley earlier this year, Guy Smith will be representing England in The Michelin Race of Champions at Telde, Gran Canaria from 28 to 30 November 2003.
The event will see Smith battling against Bentley team mates Rinaldo Capello and Tom Kristensen, a prospect he is relishing. “It’s great I’ve been invited to race.” comments Smith. “I’ve seen The Race of Champions on TV and it looks fantastic. I’ll be driving against some of the best drivers in the world which will be a real honour for me. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity of taking part in something completely different. I’ve never done anything like this before!”
The Michelin Race of Champions involves the best drivers from racing, rallying and motorbikes, coming together to represent their country. Racing drivers, rally stars and motorbike riders will race against their counterparts, in identical cars, making the competition as fair as possible. The ROC Nations Cup takes place on Saturday 29 November and is a precursor to the main event on Sunday 30 November, where nine teams from countries such as England, Finland and the USA will tussle for track supremacy.
The fastest eight drivers from the ROC Nations Cup will go on to compete in the Michelin Race of Champions. A battle through four rounds, where competitors rally around a specially constructed circuit, and ultimately the champion of champions is decided.
The welcome distraction offered by The Race of Champions will provide a brief period of relaxation for Smith, who recently tested for Nissan Dallara team, Zele Racing, and is set to test for two Champ Car teams in early December.
