Doncaster Racing Edges Powell Motorsport To Win Three-Hour Grand-Am Cup
Friday night's Grand-Am Cup three-hour race on Daytona International Speedway's historic 3.56-mile road course came down to the wire.
On Lap 74 of 78 laps, the No. 119 Doncaster Racing Porsche, with Jean-Francois Dumoulin behind the wheel, pulled off the winning pass on Doug Goad and No. 11 Powell Motorsport Corvette. The No. 119 Doncaster Porsche's margin of victory was 2.9 seconds.
The No. 119 Doncaster Porsche and the No. 11 Powell Motorsport Corvette battled for the lead throughout the Grand-Am Cup season finale.
"It was tight from the start to the end," said a jubilant Dumoulin.
Handling problems proved to be the difference in the race for the No. 11 Powell Motorsport Corvette driven by Goad and Devon Powell.
"We were towed out in the left front and that's what hurt us at the end," Goad said. "The car pushed on the entrances to the right and left corners because of that tow condition."
With the win, Doncaster Racing clinches the Grand Sport I Championship.
"It's amazing getting the championship here at the last race at Daytona," Dumoulin said. "The team did a great job all year. It's a team effort."
Rounding out the overall podium was the No. 02 Powell Motorsport Corvette driven by Mike Weinberg and Don Knowles.
