Huff Superquick In Barcelona
Top British driver Robert Huff from Cambridge will line up on the second row of the grid for today’s Spanish SEAT Supercopa race after stunning the local opposition by posting the fourth quickest time, just 0.2 seconds off the pole time.
The 23 year-old Holiday Inn SEAT Cupra Champion, on his very first time at the Circuit de Catalunya, is driving his Marshall of Cambridge-backed Leon Cupra R which took him to three wins and three second places in the UK-based series this year. Now, running to Supercopa regulations, which allow camber and ride height changes, Robert found an ideal set-up, which enabled him to post the 10th and 9th quickest times in official testing.
Robert was delighted with his performance since he arrived in Spain, and heads into this afternoon’s first race in positive mood. “The different set-up makes the Leon faster, and we are much faster down the long start / finish straight than we were even at Thruxton, which was the fastest race in the SEAT Cupra Championship. The car is running with bigger brakes and we are braking really late for the first corner from almost 150mph, and we got to the stage in testing where we were locking the brakes up so we needed to work a little on the brake bias so we can brake that five metres later like the locals.
“It’s an unbelievable experience to be driving on the Spanish Grand Prix circuit. It’s a fantastic track and even with all the changes to the car we are on the pace. Before we arrived a top ten finish would have been great, but now to be on the second row, a win is more than possible.”
