Reigning British Touring Car Champion, VX Racing, celebrated its triple-triple winning season and collected four awards at the 2003 TOCA Awards dinner held at the Hilton Hotel, Coventry.
Kevin Wale, chairman and managing director of Vauxhall Motors collected the trophy for the winning manufacturer at the awards, which was hosted by Tony Jardine and attended by BTCC teams and drivers. Receiving the Award, Wale said “The Vauxhall Astra Coupés have been very strong and consistently beaten the rival leading manufacturers, it’s been a good season for VX Racing. We are looking forward to another great year in the UK’s premier racing series. Well done to everyone involved.”
VX Racing’s Ian Harrison was presented with the award for the winning team. VX Racing clinched the team title for the third consecutive year in 2003, finishing 139 points ahead of its nearest rival Honda Racing.
To round off the evening and complete VX Racing’s haul of trophies, Muller was presented with the champion driver’s trophy to rapturous applause. After six years of competing in the BTCC, and after narrowly missing out on the championship for the previous two years Muller was delighted, “The car gave me the opportunity to do It.” he said. “It was the work of my engineer John, and a good car, but it was not easy. I’m pleased for my guys. Thanks to the team, this trophy is for you as well.”
VX Racing will return to defend its titles in the 2004 Green Flag MAS British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton in April.
