Rivals Become Teammates as Haung, Hall Join SpeedSource No. 70 Daytona Prototype Lineup
SpeedSource Race Engineering announced today that Larry Huang and Chris Hall will join Sylvain Tremblay and Selby Wellman in the No. 70 Ford-powered Multimatic Daytona Prototype for the Rolex 24 At Daytona.
Huang and Hall were competitors of SpeedSource in the 2003 Grand-Am Cup Series, racing against each other in the Grand Sport I class. After the Rolex 24, the duo will once again return to their role as friendly rivals with SpeedSource.
"Chris and Larry were strong competitors in the 2003 Grand-Am Cup Series. In their first season with their Corvette they made some competitive runs at race wins. They had planned to do a Daytona Prototype in the 2004 Rolex 24 Hours with their own team, but their car isn't going to be ready in time," explained SpeedSource team owner Tremblay.
Following the Rolex 24 At Daytona, Hall and Huang will campaign a Crawford chassis under the Silverstone Racing Services banner. The purchase of the new Daytona Prototype was completed earlier today.
"You know, joining Tremblay and Wellman is one good thing to come out of (our) situation," commented Hall. "The Ford Multimatic won this race last year in the hands of Multimatic, and there is no reason that it can't do the same this year in the capable hands of SpeedSource."
In addition to the No. 70 Daytona Prototype, SpeedSource Race Engineering will also campaign the No. 9 Daytona Prototype in the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Paul Mears Jr. and Mike Borkowski will share the car for the 2004 season and will be joined by yet to be disclosed drivers at the Rolex 24.
