It is appropriate that the first saloon car news to be posted on this site reveals the first view of the most exciting new car due for the 2001 season. Now that rear wheel drive has been officially ratified, ABG Motorsport can release this official photograph of the BTCC Lexus IS200.
Team Manager Tim Blake explains that, “this is the first of the two shells Peter Hignett is working on at ABG. We’re as far advanced as we can be at this stage of the winter. We’re very happy with the current set-up of the BTCC and can’t wait for the season to start.”
With the regulations all but finalised, it is all systems go at ABG’s Cheshire base. Peter Hignett and Tim Blake last combined resources in 1998 to create the Championship-winning Viper programme for Kurt Luby and Richard Dean, and they can now confirm that they’ll be running two cars in the Touring class. Although a second driver hasn’t been announced, Kurt Luby will be in one of Lexus IS200s.
“The car will be in the wind tunnel for the first time next week,” said Blake.
