The Puzzle Unravels |

A suggestion that Richard Lloyd might run an Audi or two as well as the Bentley project was firmly quashed by an Audi spokesman, which leaves Stefan Johansson and Dave Maraj as the ‘most likely to’ candidates. The Swede’s team – thought to have split from Jim Matthews who might be going Trans-Am racing – could run one car in the ELMS and at Le Mans, while Champion could be set to run a second customer car in the ALMS.
The Lloyd-Audi connection seems to have been fuelled by the fact that 2000 Johansson-Matthews team manager John Wickham has joined Richard Lloyd – to manage the Bentley Le Mans project. Wickham looked after the Audi R8Cs in 1999, so he should be fairly familiar with the EXP Speed 8.
The situation seems to leave Johansson looking for the financial support to run an R8 in Europe. A second year with the 2KQ never seemed a likely prospect.
