Herbert today (THURS) qualified in fourth place on the 41-car grid.<BR> <BR> The “sister” Audi Sport UK Team Veloqx R8 of Herbert’s fellow former Le Mans 24 Hour race winners Allan McNish (34) and Frank Biela plus Pierre Kaffer start in second spot courtesy of the “Flying Scotsman”.<BR> <BR> The Audi R8 of McNish stopped the clock at 1min 48.821, an average speed of 122.403mph, while Herbert set a time of 1:49.944secs (121.153mph). Pole-position went to the similar Audi of JJ Lehto, of Finland (1:48.710).<BR> <BR> Smith, last year’s Le Mans winner, commented: “Stirling is actually here at Sebring and Jamie, Johnny and I would love to earn the Audi Veloqx team a début race victory in the presence of one of the world’s greatest drivers – certainly the best British driver never to win a world championship.”<BR> <BR> Herbert, the last Englishman to win the Sebring race, two years ago, added: “We’ve been fast since we arrived last week. In qualifying, I set my fastest time early in the session but got bumped down to fourth with three minutes to run. But that’s not an issue in a race lasting 12 Hours and I’m certain we’ll be strong.” <BR> <BR> McNish, who has never won this “classic” race, commented: “I was on pole from the start until seven minutes to the chequered flag. I went quicker on my very last lap but it wasn’t quite good enough.
