David All Set To Take On Goliath At Sebring 12 Hour Race
The British Morgan Works Race Team, battling on against a lack of major funding, has qualified today to start the gruelling 12-hour America Le Mans Series endurance race on Saturday.
Dwarfed in the paddock by big budget teams from the USA and Europe, the British factory team from the world’s oldest independent motor company has to make up for the lack of big sponsorship with sheer guts and determination, plus a touch of magic that comes with the legendary Morgan name. And it’s a formula that is winning the hearts of the Sebring fans.
Team Manager David Dowse comments:
“We have had a fantastic reception here, with people flying in from all over the States to support us. Some are really knowledgeable Morgan people; others just love the way that we’re not afraid to take on the big boys. The fact that the car is so unusual looking and is built using wood and aluminium really blows some people away.”
The Team qualified today in 15th place in a class of 16 GT cars, but the Morgan camp is in high spirits:
“The class started at 20 cars, so some teams have pulled out even before the race starts. 12 hours is a very long way to go, and it’s all about who keeps going for longest and who spends the least time in the pits. Whatever happens, there will be no lack of spirit from this team.”
