Huff Delighted With First UK Outing In SEAT Toledo Cupra
Robert Huff completed 90 miles of trouble-free testing at Donington Park last week in preparation for his assault on the 2004 Green Flag British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). The 24 year-old BES Plc supported driver from Cambridge will contest the series in a SEAT Sport UK Toledo Cupra, his reward for winning last season’s inaugural Holiday Inn SEAT Cupra Championship.
The aim of the test session was to experiment with different suspension set-ups, camber settings, ride heights and rear wing positions and several key members of SEAT Sport in Spain, including its chief engineer Benoit Bagur, flew in from Barcelona to attend the test.
The car, running to 2004 ETCC specification, enjoyed a trouble-free UK debut outing before flying out to Albacete in Spain for a three day test this week prior to the opening round of the UK’s premier saloon car series which starts at Thruxton on 11 April.
“I’m really pleased with how things went on my first outing in the car in the UK and to be just one tenth off my team-mate Jason (Plato) straight out is great,” said Robert. “It was all very positive, the car is great and in just 46 laps I was able to improve my own time by a second. I’m very happy with how things went with the RML team, I think we will work well together and I’m really looking forward to the first race at Thruxton, my favourite circuit.”
Live coverage – part of ITV1’s regular new Speed Sunday brand will start at the BTCC’s opening raceday at Thruxton, on 11 April. The final four race meetings of the season, at Knockhill, Brands Hatch, Snetterton and Donington Park in August and September will also be broadcast live.
At Thruxton and Donington, the third of the day’s three BTCC races will be televised after highlight re-caps of races one and two. At Knockhill, Brands Hatch and Snetterton, races two and three will be live with a break in between. Race two coverage will include highlights of the day’s first race.
