Super Pole Etc. |

The World Motor Sport Council today announced that the FIA GT Championship will have a revised qualifying procedure.
The six best times in each class in the first qualifying session will take part in a Super Pole session, which will involve each car having just one flying lap to set a time. The Super Pole session will determine the first 12 places on the starting grid. The other cars will qualify in the normal way.
Additionally, total entries are limited to 30, but two places will be available at each event for local entries. Cars may not be made available to just one team. “A minimum of six cars must be sold to different teams.” Cars must be delivered for the first event of the season, if ordered at least six months in advance.
It does seem a slightly retrograde step to limit the grids to 30, and if the above is followed to the letter, there can only be five marques (or less) on the grid, can’t there? And there will also be a barrier for new manufacturers to overcome that looks insurmountable? How can you insist that one manufacturer sells six cars to customers?
