Audi Sport UK Team Veloqx successfully completed a two-day “official” Le Mans Endurance Series test session which saw the British team achieve the fourth and sixth fastest times.
Pierre Kaffer (D) recorded a 1min 39.604secs (129.39mph) around the 3.58-mile Paul Ricard track in Southern France today. Co-driver Allan McNish (GB) had topped the timesheets with a 1:39.655secs (129.33mph) the previous day.
Kaffer commented:
“It was very satisfying to set our car’s quickest time of the test but more importantly, Allan and I worked very well together and have achieved a good set-up for Le Mans.”
Jamie Davies (GB) and Guy Smith (GB) shared the Audi Veloqx team’s second Audi R8 with Le Mans “reserve” driver, Darren Turner, who experienced his first-ever laps in an Audi R8.
Jamie commented:
“We worked through a lot of work in advance of Le Mans and Monza.”
Both Audi Sport UK Team Veloqx R8s featured revised aerodynamics for the first time mandatory for the Le Mans 24 Hours and for the LMES which begins at Monza on 9 May.
The next event for the two-car Veloqx squad is the all-important one-day test at Le Mans on 25 April when drivers and teams get their one and only opportunity to practice on the legendary circuit before the 24 Hour race in June.
