Plummer/Cosmo Finish 6th After Late Problem
Falls From 3rd to 6th in final Five Laps of Grand Am Cup Race
Team BGB salvaged a 6th place finish in the Grand Am Cup Phoenix Twin 200's at Phoenix International Raceway when the No.38 BGB Motorsports Porsche suffered an uncharacteristic transmission problem during the final laps of the Grand Sport race.
Co-driver Mark Plummer charged early in the race for position and turned the helm over to Guy Cosmo who maintained a healthy margin over the field. The team was in position for a solid podium finish when Cosmo lost all gears entering Turn One. After coasting to a stop, Cosmo managed to manipulate the gear cables to engage a gear and limp home for the 6th place finish. In spite of the disappointment over the finish, the team remains optimistic about the rest of the season.
"Last year we would have begged for 6th place, this year we are disappointed," said 20-year-old Mark Plummer. "I think that says a lot for the calibre of this team. After being crashed out at Homestead, it's great to just roll the car back on the trailer and get some testing done and get ready for Canada."
The team had to overcome huge obstacles to make the race. The No.38 BGB Motorsports Porsche was nearly destroyed in a huge shunt less than two weeks earlier at Homestead. The team had only five days to effect repairs.
"Ultimately to finish on the podium would have been much nicer," said Team Manager Duane Neyer. "We have to look back and recognize that a week ago, we did not have a race car. Mark did a fine job. He ran a very competitive pace. We asked him to run a certain pace, he was consistent. You can't ask for anything more."
