Borcheller, Stanton Continue To Dominate Grand-Am Cup Points
Salama, Turner Claim Sport Touring Lead
Terry Borcheller and Craig Stanton picked up their third-straight Grand-Am Cup Series win in as many races last weekend during the Phoenix Twin 200s at Phoenix International Raceway. The win gave TheRaceSite.com Racing No. 44 Porsche and its drivers 105 points and a dominant 21-point advantage in the Grand Sport team and driver point standings. TheRaceSite.com Racing's No. 43 Porsche is in second place in the Grand Sport team standings with drivers Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker. The Unitech Racing No. 33 Nissan is third in the team standings, 43 points back, along with its driver Mike Cronin Jr.
Don Salama and Will Turner's second-place finish at the wheel of the Turner Motorsports No. 95 BMW in the Phoenix Sport Touring race propelled them into the class points lead in the driver and team standings with 92 points.
A disappointing 17th-place finish in Phoenix knocked the previous leaders, DF Motorsports drivers Manny Matz and Jason Potter, to 17 points behind with 75, while the SpeedSource duo of David Tuaty and Scott Schlesinger is only one point behind them with 74.
In the Grand-Am Cup Series manufacturer standings, Porsche's three-straight wins in the Grand Sport class has given it a 24-point lead over Nissan and 32-point advantage over Ford. BMW continues to hold the top spot in the Sport Touring ranks with its eight-point lead over Acura. After its first win of the season, Mazda moved into the third place in the Sport Touring manufacturer standings, 14 points behind the leader.
