Five and a half years after heading to Le Mans for the first time, Laurence Pearce was awarded the prize that he’s been chasing – prizes in fact, as his squad collected the FIA GT Teams and Drivers Trophies at the official prize giving in Monaco on December 8. Ferrari, Schumacher - Peugeot, Gronholm and Rautainen - Lister Cars, Julian Bailey and Jamie Campbell-Walter.
The big man seems to have been celebrating for much of the weekend, and was late in on Monday morning.......but he deserves at least a morning off.
Once the F3000 awards were completed, the stage was cleared for the display of the Lister Storm, the Ferrari and the Peugeot – plus the Larbre Porsche, of course. “Until I got there, I didn’t realise the scale of the event,” commented an overawed Jamie Campbell-Walter. “We were on the GT table with Stephane Ratel and Andrea Garbagnati, and it was a wonderful evening.”
“The video of the Lister came on, the flash lights were going off, I couldn’t see for the lights. The trophies are very heavy,” explained JC-W. “It was great mixing with the Schumachers, Bernie Ecclestone - everyone was there.”
The party then moved on to Jimmy’s night club, which was awash with “six feet two Russian models. Laurence really splashed out for once; we stayed for the whole weekend at the Hotel de Paris, and my wife came with us, Fiona was there. It was just a magic weekend.”
JC-W added that, “Laurence was in his element. He’s come a long way, and he’s done it against tough competition.”
The photo is from Monza, where the tension of a pit stop is self evident. Photos from the prize giving in due course. Lister driver news for 2001 may arrive first.
