Hollyoaks Star Terri Dwyer Teams Up With Racing Driver Jason Plato To Present Racing Rivals In 2004
Terri Dwyer, who played Ruth Osborne in Channel 4's long-running soap opera Hollyoaks and who is the new legs of Wilkinson Sword Intuition, will present ‘Racing Rivals’ – the docu-soap television series that follows the drivers in the Holiday Inn SEAT Cupra Championship - in 2004.
Together with Jason Plato, the 2001 British Touring Car Champion and SEAT Sport UK’s works BTCC driver, Terri will report on all the triumphs and tears from all 12 rounds of the SEAT racing series and go behind-the- scenes to uncover what turns sensitive and caring folk off the circuit into fender-bending must win drivers on the race track. Whilst this is Terri’s first involvement in motorsport, the very versatile and vivacious Leicester-born actress and presenter is an accomplished sportswoman in her own right. She won six sporting disciplines when she appeared on The Games (Channel 4) and was on the winning Champion of Champions team (broadcast on C4 on Sunday 18th April). Terri has also won gold medals in international swimming and cross-country competitions, rides horses, is a fully qualified scuba diver and holds a motorbike licence.
Terri met all the SEAT Cupra Championship drivers at a pre-season test recently, and put her Celebrity Fear Factor (Sky One) experience to the test by enjoying a high-speed ride in a 250bhp turbocharged Leon Cupra R around the Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit near Derby. Terri said: “It was fantastic to go out on a circuit in a Leon Cupra racing car because it gives me an idea of what the drivers in the SEAT Cupra Championship will be experiencing. I love sport yet I know nothing about motorsport. I’m really keen to learn and that is a big part of the attraction of presenting Racing Rivals – doing something new and exciting. As a racing driver, Jason Plato will be on hand to give his expert opinion on race craft and car set up and I will be delving more into the driver’s personal lives and bringing out their quirky and interesting characteristics. I’m really looking forward to working on Racing Rivals. It’s a brilliant concept and it should be great fun.”
4D Productions, in association with Granada Sport, will produce two separate programmes entitled ‘Racing Rivals’ (which delves behind-the-scenes of the racing drivers at home, work and at the circuits) and ‘Racing Rivals Highlights’, which focuses more on the motor racing. Terri and Jason will present both and they will be broadcast on Channel 4, Bravo, Motors TV and ITV later in the year. The 2004 SEAT Cupra Championship is a 12 race series – 10 races of which are part of the TOCA Tour / British Touring Car Championship package, and two races will be held at a special ‘Racing Rivals – Live 2004’ event at Donington Park. The 2004 SEAT Cupra Championship’s total prize fund is over £650,000, and the Champion will win the biggest prize in British motorsport – a works touring car drive with SEAT Sport UK in 2005. |
