The FIA World Motor Sport Council Meeting on December 8 decided that the FIA Sportscar Championship regulations would allow a rear diffuser and carbon brake discs as from January 2001, while the Lights class will have a minimum weight of 720kg. Engines will still have to be six cylinder units derived from production models.
Price caps for engines and chassis will still apply to this series. John Mangoletsi explained that, "sealing the regulations confirms that next year the Championship will go from strength to strength with new teams and constructors joining us, just as they have every season since our inception in 1997."
The FIA’s involvement therefore coincides with a coming together of ACO and FIA rules, for reasons that remain unclear. Clarification is being sought.
