Kennard Takes Double Win And Series Lead
BRDC Rising Star Jonathan Kennard continued his domination in this weekend’s Visma Software Formula Palmer Audi Championship rounds at Monza, notching up a superb victory in round 4 to move into the lead of the Championship. The 18 year-old from Tunbridge Well, led from pole into the first chicane but came under pressure from Stuart Prior on the second lap, the latter diving up the inside at the first chicane and forcing Kennard wide.
American Sergey Shleikin capitalised on Jonathan’s lack of momentum to move ahead into third but Kennard maintained his cool to keep on his tail, retaking the position with a stunning move round the outside at Curva Grande. Up ahead Prior spun out giving Jonathan the race lead on lap 6 which he held to the flag to take his second win of the weekend.
“That was a bit tougher than the first race that’s for sure,” said Jonathan at the finish. “I made a good start and things were looking good until Prior made a move down the inside and pushed me wide, allowing Shleikin through. When Stuart threw it off the track I knew all I had to worry about was Shleikin and to be fair he was quick, I can see I’m going to have some good battles with him.”
