Weather Dampens Spirits For Team PSP at Silverstone
Race results - Sunday 9 May, Silverstone
Top-ten results eluded both of Team PSP's drivers on a weekend where the changeable weather made a lottery of chassis settings and tyre choices, as seen by the mixed results for many of the top runners in BTCC. On the bright side, BTCC rookie Fariqe Hairuman drove safely and consistently all weekend to record three solid race finishes, and Watson Smith, despite a down-on-power engine, added to the team's databank for damp and wet-weather chassis settings with best times close to the front runners.
Fariqe Hairuman:
"I'm pleased to have got another three solid race finishes in difficult conditions. It's hard to find a good handling balance when it's cold and the track surface varies from wet to damp to dry, so I've gained a lot of useful experience today."
Shaun Watson-Smith:
"We struggled to find the ideal set-up in the damp yesterday and then had to estimate dry settings today. Then I was short of straight-line speed in the first race which really hurts at Silverstone. With three races close together there's no time to change an engine without missing a race so I just had to soldier on. Despite that, my best lap in round 8 was still within half a second of the fastest race lap - so we're looking forward to Oulton."
Mike Carroll, (Chief Engineer):
"I hope we can put this weekend behind us and move on - the weather played havoc with qualifying and it looks as though Shaun's engine was down on power today. We have to find the problem and get back to our normal podium-chasing pace for the next race weekend."
David Wong, (Team Principal):
"Once again, I'm pleased with Fariqe's progress - he's growing in confidence in a highly-competitive BTCC and putting in good performances. It was tough for us at Silverstone with a greasy changeable track and cold weather. We'll pick ourselves up for Oulton."
