Nelson Philippe To Make His First Oval Start In A Champ Car At The Time Warner Cable Roadrunner 250 In Milwaukee
Making his third Champ Car start, Rocketsports rookie Nelson Philippe in the No. 17 LeasePlan Lola, maintains a positive approach to his first oval race in a Champ Car. The eager teenager consistently seeks to develop his skills, and works closely with the Rocketsports/LeasePlan crew. Philippe will start in 17th position on the grid after qualifying with a time of 21.955 (169.219 mph or 272.331 km/h), and hopes to add to his string of solid finishes in the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered By Ford.
“It’s always a challenge to run first in qualifying, but we did a good job and the set-up of the No.17 LeasePlan car felt better,” said Philippe, who is currently in 12th position in the series standings with 19 points. “The car improved as we worked on it throughout the weekend. We know it runs well in traffic and I’m confident it’s a good car for the race.
“This being my first oval in a Champ Car, I would’ve liked some more time in the Champ Car before this race, but we’d have to do it sooner or later, so it’s all good, “ admitted Philippe. “There’s always a learning curve and we’re always making progress.”
When asked about the event being a night-race, Philippe picked up on the surreal ambience of the well-lit oval. “I sensed some differences driving at night with the cooler, denser air, but we compensated for it on the car and it was fine. It’s actually fun to run at night and it actually has a video game sensation,” Philippe added.
