Huff Ready For Emerald Isle Debut
Robert Huff will make his Irish racing debut when he competes in the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship rounds at Mondello Park next weekend (June 12/13). Although the tight and twisty 2.25 mile circuit is an unknown to the 24 year-old SEAT Sport UK driver from Cambridge, his performance last year on his first visit to the Catalunya circuit in Spain shows he is able to learn new circuits quickly.
“I don’t know anything about the Mondello track, “said Rob. “But I’ve always been able to learn new circuits quickly and so I’m really looking forward to the challenge. When I raced for the first time in Barcelona last year, I qualified 4th just 0.2 seconds off pole so providing free practice goes well I’m confident we can get a good qualifying and race set-up and be on the pace.”
The Mondello Park rounds will also see the SEAT Toledo Cupras of Rob and team-mate Jason Plato run under the revised ETCC-spec weight regulations which will see both cars run at their lightest. This could give Rob an advantage but the limited track time of just two free practice sessions on Saturday morning prior to the crucial qualifying will require a concerted effort to convert track knowledge into qualifying and race pace.
Rob added, “I’ve never even been to Ireland before, not even on holiday, but I love racing on new circuits. It will be really important to have a good free practice prior to qualifying though as there’s just two hours between the end of the second session and the 30 minute qualifying in the afternoon, so it’s going to be a very interesting weekend.”
