Motorock Trans-Am Series Racer Ron Fellows Completes Corvette Sweep At Le Mans
Ron Fellows, who announced his return to Motorock Trans-Am competition last week, was part of a Chevrolet Corvette sweep of the GTS class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Sunday. Teamed with former Champ Car World Series driver Max Papis, and Johnny O’Connell, Fellows finished second in class behind the similar car of Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta and Jan Magnussen.
Fellows, a two-time Le Mans winner, will make his Trans-Am homecoming during the 35th Le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières July 30-Aug. 1. Ranking seventh on the all-time Trans-Am win list with 19 victories, Fellows departed the Series in 1997. Fellows will wheel a Chevrolet Corvette fielded by Derhaag Motorsports, teaming with longtime Trans-Am competitor Randy Ruhlman (No. 49 Preformed Line Products Canada Chevrolet Corvette) at Trois-Rivières.
The next race for the Motorock Trans-Am Series, the Albertsons Trans-Am 100, is at Portland International Raceway, during the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford weekend, scheduled for June 18-20. The Albertsons Trans-Am 100 will take the green flag Saturday, June 18, at approximately 3:45 p.m.
The Motorock Trans-Am Series features closed-fendered, production-based, V-8-powered sports cars, competing on permanent road courses, and temporary street and airport circuits throughout North America. The Trans-Am Series is America’s oldest continuously running road racing series and celebrates its 39th year of competition in 2004.
