I was hoping the rest of the race would go under green. Unfortunately that didn’t happen so I had to work as hard as I could as many laps as I could. I had to watch a couple of laps to find where my car was stronger than the Nissans and I found a spot, Turn 5, where I passed all the lead cars. I went inside and stuck to the inside and they couldn’t come in. That is what happened to Stu Hayner. He saw me a little too late and tried to close the door and I was already there and he clipped my car and spun to the outside. I had to pick and choose where I could do that.”<BR> <BR> The race was slowed nine times for 27 laps, and featured 11 different leaders, and ended under caution 10 laps from its scheduled distance owing to a three-hour time limit.<BR> <BR> It was Stanton’s fourth Grand-Am Cup race victory of the season, and the triumph enabled Stanton to extend his lead in the Grand-Am Cup Grand Sport (GS) point standings to 32 points (166-134) over his former co-driver Terry Borcheller at the season’s halfway point. No. 91 Doncaster Racing Porsche 996 co-drivers Greg Wilkins and Robert Julien finished third.<BR> <BR> “We were pretty competitive, the top 10 cars were,” Stanton said. “I was pretty amazed some cars had more power, but we had good handling so the restarts played in our favour. I think we could carry momentum and get out some clean laps, really let the car roll. We could gain momentum and I think that was our strength.”<BR> <BR> In the Sport Touring (ST) class, co-drivers Tim Pappas and Bill Auberlen co-piloted the No. 97 Turner Motorsport BMW 330i to victory over Chuck Goldsborough and Ian James in the No. 2 Team Lexus IS300. The No. 29 Bill Fenton Motorsports Acura RSX-S of Bill Fenton and Bob Beede finished third, and No. 95 Turner Motorsport BMW 330i co-drivers Don Salama and Will Turner continue to lead the ST point standings following a fourth place finish today.<BR> <BR> “It was a strong race and the Turner BMW is a great car,” said Pappas. “Bill Auberlen and I worked very hard during the race and we were hoping that the outcome ended up in our favour. We are happy with the result nevertheless. It was a very hard race. There is good competition in Grand-Am Cup.
