Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series Partners with The Worldwide Leader in Sports
Three Year Partnership With ESPN Will Provide International Distribution of Series
In an exciting and important move to expand coverage of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series, officials from the Grand American Road Racing Association and ESPN International announced today a multi-year broadcast partnership. Through this partnership, ESPN International will broadcast a customized, one-hour highlight program for each race of the Rolex Sports Car Series season to more than 100 countries throughout the world.
This three-year deal will provide full-season coverage for the 2004, 2005, and 2006 Rolex Sports Car Series seasons. ESPN began their coverage this season from Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant broadcasting throughout Latin America, Africa, Israel, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
“With a number of our drivers hailing from other countries, it’s only natural that race fans outside of North America should also have the opportunity to watch their hero’s race on television,” said Grand American Road Racing Association President, Roger Edmondson. “This agreement is an extremely important step in the growth of the Rolex Sports Car Series, and we are delighted to partner with a worldwide broadcasting powerhouse in ESPN International as we work together to continue growing our fan base. Together with the fabulous coverage we already receive at home from SPEED Channel, this new arrangement will provide great value to our fans, sponsors, teams and drivers.”
In addition, ESPN International will handle worldwide syndication rights for the Series and help identify broadcast partnerships on a country-by-country basis. ESPN International is one of the leading syndicates of sports programming throughout the world and this relationship will help maximize coverage of the Rolex Sports Car Series and provide a solid base of distribution.
ESPN International programs, owns, or has equity interest in 25 networks televised outside of the United States to more than 180 countries and territories. ESPN International programming is transmitted in 10 languages (Arabic, English, French, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese and Spanish). ESPN International is a division of ESPN, Inc., “The Worldwide Leader in Sports.”
