Jamie Davies Is In Overnight Provisional Pole-Position For 1,000km Le Mans Endurance Series Race At The Nürburgring.
Davies set a time of 1min 47.009secs in his Audi Sport UK Team Veloqx R8 just before sleet and heavy rain flooded the 3.2-mile German track.
“As qualifying began, it started to rain,” confirmed Jamie. “I managed to get a quick lap in before it rained heavily sending everyone in to the pits. Although we went back out around 20-minutes later, in brilliant sunshine, the track was still wet and none of the front runners improved their times.”
The second Veloqx Audi of German Pierre Kaffer (1:48.820) lies third on the 40-car grid, less than half a second slower than the similar Japanese Audi of Seiji Ara (1:48.820). A final 45-minute qualifying session is staged tomorrow (SAT) morning with the 620-mile race scheduled to begin at 1500 (BST). Both Kaffer and Ara briefly held "pole" before Davies set his quickest time.
The Veloqx Audi team dominated the front row of the grid for the opening LMES race in Italy - which ultimately saw the Davies/Johnny Herbert Audi beat the Kaffer/Allan McNish R8 by just 0.663secs.
Last month, the Veloqx Audis started the Le Mans 24 Hours from the front row and led for over 15 hours before ultimately finishing second and fifth.
