Miss Consist-iality Aims For More Racing Success
Having successfully completed her studies at Brooklands College, Cheam racing driver Melanie Healey can now concentrate on the second half of the Holiday Inn SEAT Cupra Championship which begins at Croft Circuit near Darlington on July 25th.
For 18 months, Melanie has been mixing studies with racing, often spending the night before a big race working on her Motorsports Engineering HND course work. It has been well worth it, however, for not only has Melanie become a regular points-scorer in the SEAT Cupra Championship, she has passed her finals with flying colours as well!
Melanie is the only driver to have finished every single race in the history of the SEAT Cupra Championship, completing all 12 races in 2003 and all six so far held in 2004. It’s not because the 24-year old racer from Surrey has been pacing herself either, for she has scored points in five races and finished in the top 10 in the most recent race at Oulton Park.
With the second half of the 2004 SEAT Cupra Championship rapidly approaching, Melanie is looking forward to returning to Croft in her 250bhp turbocharged Spur Garage / Radio Jackie / Secure Valeting Leon Cupra, for it’s where the 2003 series started and is therefore one of the few circuits where Melanie has raced on before.
Three double header race meetings remain, with Croft (July 25), Knockhill (August 8) and Donington Park (August 29) circuits each hosting two SEAT Cupra Championship races.
Melanie said: “I’m pleased with my record in the SEAT Cupra Championship, and what’s even more pleasing is that in the last eighteen months I’ve consistently got quicker and improved as a racing driver. Although I’m at the back of the field I can now keep up and race with the drivers in front, so the next step is to overtake some and race in the mid-field.
“I’m happy with the way the first half of the season has gone and I’m really looking forward to the second half. It’s good that we are returning to Croft next because I know my way around there, so I’ll be looking for a good result. Now that my college work has finished I’ll be able to concentrate more on my racing too, so it’s all gearing up to be an exciting few months of study-free racing!”
