SCCA Lifts Suspension On Kumho Ecsta V710 Tyre
Sports Car Club of America, Inc.’s Board of Directors voted Tuesday to lift the suspension placed on the Kumho ECSTA V710 tyre for SCCA-wide competition.
The vote came after independent tests confirmed the tyre’s performance specifications set by the Department of Transportation (DOT).
Kumho had discontinued and collected the tyres this spring, citing “inconsistent test results relating to tread splice and tread area durability.” SCCA followed Kumho’s lead, suspending the tyre from competition in all programs on April 6.
The tyre is again eligible for SCCA Club Racing and Solo competition, effective immediately. Competitors can tell if they have the approved Kumho ECSTA V710 by the inclusion of Polyester in the sidewall as part of the construction. The discontinued, unapproved tyre does not list Polyester on the sidewall.
