The car was entered and run by the all-new Krohn-Barbour Racing team and driven by Australian David Brabham and Dutchman Peter Kox.<BR> <BR> The Murciélago R-GT raced yesterday (Monday 5 July, a public holiday) in the New England Grand Prix at Lime Rock circuit, Connecticut, and made its US debut the previous Sunday (27 June) at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Ohio. In both events the Lamborghini race car battled for third place in the GTS class, capturing the attention of the CBS and SPEED Channel TV cameras. <BR> <BR> In the Mid-Ohio race, round two of the nine-race American Le Mans Series (ALMS), Brabham was beaten to third place by just seven-tenths of a second after two hours and 45 minutes of racing. <BR> <BR> In round three of the ALMS at Lime Rock, Brabham stayed right with the two class-leading Corvettes and the Saleen S7R in the opening laps. A third place finish looked possible until 53 minutes into the race, when the Saleen of Johnny Mowlem made an over-ambitious attempt to pass the Lamborghini, now with Kox at the wheel, and smashed heavily into its right rear corner. The Lamborghini subsequently lost an hour in the pits while suspension repairs were made, but it did return to the track to complete 103 laps and finish the race. <BR> <BR> Before arriving in America, the Murciélago R-GT had contested April’s FIA GT Championship round at Valencia, Spain. There, in the hands of Kox and Englishman Oliver Gavin, the Lamborghini finished third. Krohn-Barbour Racing also took delivery of a second Murciélago R-GT, to be raced by Texan businessman Tracy Krohn and Canadian professional racer Scott Maxwell. This was damaged in a heavy collision with another car in pre-race testing at Mid-Ohio, and will race for the first time at Infineon Raceway.<BR> <BR> Manfred Fitzgerald, Marketing Manager, Automobili Lamborghini, reviews the American debut of the new R-GT racer, saying, “We have seen a promising start for the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT with Krohn-Barbour Racing in the first two ALMS races. The series is highly competitive and, against tough competition, our new sports racing car performed well. The team worked hard to prepare the car for these races with their professionalism and commitment producing solid results. I look forward to seeing both Krohn-Barbour Racing cars out on track at Sears Point.”<BR> <BR> The Murciélago R-GT sports racing car is derived from the acclaimed road going Lamborghini Murciélago super sports car.
