Joey Scarallo Looking For Another Top Five At Toronto
The third time is still a charm for sophomore Motorock Trans-Am Series driver Joey Scarallo. Scarallo, who finished fifth at Cleveland, his third consecutive top-five finish, is still calming down from the thrill of racing against 1978 Trans-Am Champion Greg Pickett. Scarallo is ready to hit the road again at the Trans-Am in T.O., part of the Molson Indy in Toronto, Round 5 of this year’s championship. Scarallo, driver of the No. 06 ROH Wheels/Group A Autotrend/Toyo Tires Chevrolet Corvette, will make his first start in Toronto this weekend.
“It was cool racing against Pickett,” said Scarallo, of his holding off Pickett for much of the race to score the top five at Cleveland. “It was a great race and we had a good run. I’m excited about Toronto now.”
Scarallo, who had mechanical problems at Cleveland during the first practice, feels confident about Toronto and his car’s performance. “I think we will be a bit quicker a lot sooner now that we have had some time between races,” said Scarallo.
Scarallo teamed this year with Baucom Motorsports, which also fields the No. 86 Ford Mustang driven by owner/driver John Baucom. The Baucom squad is preparing Scarallo’s car for the 2004 season. “Teaming with John has proven to be a good move,” said Scarallo. “I am able to focus on my driving and not the stress of maintaining my car.”
Scarallo, whose sister is getting married on July 11, is seeking to build on his consistent finishes at Toronto. “I want to finish on the podium in the worst kind of way,” said Scarallo. “Nothing would make me happier than winning a podium and hopping on a plane back to New York for my sister’s wedding the very next day. That would be a great race weekend.”
